Shang Jianyao (商见曜) is the main protagonist of Embers Ad Infinitum. He is a resident of Pangu Biology and a member of the Old Task Force. He is also Awakened.
Appearance[]
Shang Jianyao is about 1.85 meters tall and well-built. He had straight eyebrows and bright brown eyes. His face was deeply contoured, and his black hair was slightly messy, covering half of his forehead.

Background[]
Originally he lived with his parents in Floor 495, Area A, Room 28.[1] His father, Shang Shi’an, was a D7 level employee. He went missing with the entire ‘Old Task Force’ in Year 37 of the New Calendar. His mother, Zhang Ruxin, was a normal D3 employee—a primary school teacher. She passed away in October of Year 40 of the New Calendar.
From October Year 40 to September Year 43, Shang Jianyao grew up in an orphanage on the 495th floor before being admitted into the university’s electronics department. And he was assigned to the Floor 495, Area B, No.196.
In May Year 46, Shang Jianyao voluntarily applied to become a confidential experiment volunteer and participated in the C-14 project. Then concealed the fact that he had become an Awakened. He pretended to have delusional disorder.[3]
On July 10th, Year 46, he graduated from university. He gave up on the marriage assignment under the pretext of Dr. Lin's certificate. He applied to Security Department and joined Jiang Baimian's Old Task Force.
